IT Governance Council (ITGC)
The IT Governance Council (ITGC) at San Diego State University is dedicated to addressing key technology issues that pose significant risks to the university. The council’s charge includes identifying opportunities to enhance IT effectiveness, codifying policies to ensure consistency and accountability, and proactively addressing areas of risk. Initially, the council will focus on tactical solutions to close known gaps, with the goal of evolving into a body that provides comprehensive governance and strategic direction for IT. This approach ensures IT services and operations align with SDSU’s mission, vision, goals, values, and community needs.
- Oversee and direct the activities of ITGC working groups.
- Facilitate communication and change management for successful implementation of working group recommendations.
- Coordinate with Divisional Vice Presidents to align IT resources with SDSU strategic priorities.
- Review, interpret, and develop action plans, as needed, to address changes in laws, regulations, or policies related to IT at SDSU.
- Promote compliance with laws, regulations, or policies, and assume oversight of university assets, data, and stability of IT operations.
- Review and guide requests for IT projects, including funding for human and technical (hardware and software) resources.
- The ITGC aims to provide a shared governance mechanism for technology strategies, ensuring they are identified, proposed, reviewed, endorsed, implemented, communicated, and supported to further SDSU’s mission.
- The council commits to honesty, positive intent, and rigorous support during meetings, embodying the OneIT values in its governance approach.
