SDSU GPT is a GenAI tool being piloted by several campus areas in coordination with the IT Division. The tool is being provided in partnership with UC San Diego and the Equitable AI Alliance. SDSU GPT makes use of Meta’s Llama 3.3 large language model to power its capabilities.

The tool is designed to enrich the GenAI experience by indexing up-to-date SDSU data.In order to organize and secure access to SDSU’s data, SDSU GPT makes use of assistants, providing role-based access to these assistants and data.

Use Cases

SDSU GPT is in a limited pilot that will run through fall of 2025. During this pilot, six assistants will be deployed and tested by several areas on campus. These assistants include:

A general AI assistant that can be used for tasks like document summarization, idea generation, and content creation (e.g., emails, reports).

Searches SDSU policies, process, and help documentation. Provides direct answers, generates content (documents, emails, reports).

Creates Canvas-ready instructional materials, activities, assessments.

Streamlines job description creation for hiring managers.

Assists with HR policies, procedures and tasks. (This chatbot will serve as the basis for future department assistants.)
