Desktop Services

The ITUS team is committed to providing exemplary desktop service to the staff of Student Information Systems (SIS), Business and Financial Affairs (BFA), Student Affairs + Campus Diversity (SA+CD), and IT Division. Whether your needs involve software or hardware, printers, or system maintenance, we can help! Desktop services for colleges and other areas can be found here: https://it.sdsu.edu/help

ITUS staff coordinate with department Desktop Area Representatives (DAREs) to support computer systems. Each BFA DARE is the liaison between ITUS Technicians and BFA Department Users (Note: Student Affairs + Campus Diversity, IT Division, and Student Information Systems do not have DARE representatives).

ITUS provides these desktop services:

  • Support of Division workstations — Windows and macOS platforms
  • Workstation client/server interface, including data backup and recovery
  • Workstation system and application security
  • Installation of ITD standard software and operating systems
  • Upgrades to standard software and operating systems
  • Workstation and printer inventory
  • Analysis and development of ITD desktop system procedures

Standard Desktop Applications

The following lists the IT Division's Standard Software for installation on Apple (macOS) and Microsoft (Windows) workstations.

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Internet Browser — Firefox*
  • Internet Alternate browser — Google Chrome
  • TechSmith - SnagIt
  • Microsoft Office: Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Global Protect (Virtual Private Network VPN)
  • Zoom

*Microsoft Edge and Safari Internet browsers, installed with the operating system, may remain active.

Non-standard, Department-owned Software: the department must provide license information and installation media or server location information for installation purposes. For all such 3rd party software, software maintenance must be provided at the department’s expense. While ITUS strives to provide support where possible, note that 3rd party software is not covered.

Hardware Requests

ITUS maintains a current recommendation on PC and Laptop Configuration Standards - use this as a guide when planning your next purchase.

When requesting new hardware, please submit a ServiceNow request using the Hardware Quote form.
