Third-Party Apps

NOTE: Prior to acquisition, all technology products and associated technology purchased or obtained at no cost (including free software) must be reviewed for potential accessibility and data security risks. The Technology Acquisition Review Process (TARP) utilizes ServiceNow ticketing to track requests.

Many Google products can offer additional functionality when combined with a third-party app, an application created by an individual developer or company that isn’t the vendor of the product or service or the device the app runs on (e.g., not Google).

Google has many third-party apps available to use with their products, and many, where there are existing relationships, have been made available in SDSU’s Google Workspace domain. Whether or not an app can be made available depends on several factors, including a review of the app’s Terms of Service, a security review to understand the permissions the app is asking for, and any other items to note (e.g., cost/funding, which typically makes it harder to approve, since the department would have to purchase the software).

Support for third-party apps

IT User Services does not provide support for third-party apps. Users accept the risk of installing and using these apps. Often the best support option is visiting the app’s website or searching Google’s support pages.

Questions should be directed to the IT User Services Help Desk at 619-594-5261.

Email communications - 3rd party authorized vendors

For any mass email communications, please contact Stratcomm for their services at: https://stratcomm.sdsu.edu/

Another option that you have is to use one of the campus approved vendors for your messaging needs. Click here for the list.

This list has approved vendors by the Campus IT Security Office that are authorized to send email on behalf of SDSU.
