    The National Science Foundation (NSF) has jointly awarded UC San Diego, San Diego State University and CSU San Bernardino a five-year, $6.7 million grant to support cyberinfrastructure (CI) training and resources.

    Outstanding Staff of 2021-22 Saluted

    Six individuals and a team of five were recognized with Presidential Staff Excellence Awards as part of an annual honor for outstanding contributions and efforts in support of the university, the community and fellow employees. In addition, the second annual Staff Lifetime Achievement Award was bestowed upon James Frazee, deputy chief information officer and senior associate vice president in the Information Technology Division.

    Research & Cyberinfrastructure Deep Dive with EPOC

    In the summer of 2022, the Research & Cyberinfrastructure group, College IT, and Dr. Faramarz Valafar engaged with the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC) team to perform an Application Deep Dive. The deep dive focused on Dr. Valafar’s research requirements around data transfer, compute, and storage.

    Summer Institute for Flex Instruction Draws Plaudits

    EDUCAUSE spotlighted SDSU’s Flexible Course Design Summer Institute (Flex-CDI) as an exemplar for technology use in its national 2020 Student Technology Report. Flex-CDI helped 894 faculty members enhance their skills and knowledge of teaching in the online environment.

    San Diego State University’s academic technology chief was among 30 “transformers and trailblazers” recognized this year by the Center for Digital Education. James Frazee, director of Instructional Technology Services (ITS), received the award for “improving the learning environment through effective implementation of technology rich solutions…that have impact on student outcomes.”
